Best Business Checking Accounts of 2026: Compare 10 Accounts, Fees and Features

Business checking is where your operating plan meets the bank's rules: collecting customer payments, paying suppliers, funding payroll and reconciling the books. An account that works well for an online consultant may have very different economics for a shop depositing cash every day.

We compare ten reviewed accounts by the services they provide and the conditions attached to them. Start with your recurring transactions and the people who need access. Then check pricing, limits and funding availability for the exact account you would open.

Quick Answer

For low-fee domestic money movement, compare Mercury and Rho. For interest paid on the reviewed checking account, compare Grasshopper Innovator and Bluevine Standard. Found and Novo combine checking with included invoicing and bookkeeping functions. Chase and Bank of America provide branch-based cash-deposit options. Lili Core and Slash Free add different combinations of payment, card and software features to this ten-account comparison.

These are starting points tied to documented functions, not exclusive awards. A required payment method, deposit route or approval permission should guide your shortlist before an advertised rate or monthly price.

The 10 Accounts in Detail

Mercury Base: Domestic Payments and Finance Workflows

Mercury's base offering has no required monthly banking fee. Its pricing lists $0 ACH and domestic wires, along with bill pay and invoice creation. Preset and customizable permissions can help divide responsibilities as a business adds people.

A Practical Fit: A company paying vendors electronically that wants payments and accounting connections in the same working environment.

Check Before Applying: Mercury does not accept cash deposits, including at its partner banks' branches. Some enhanced workflows and accounting products have separate pricing. International payments require attention to currency conversion and possible intermediary deductions; a $0 sending fee does not establish a $0 end-to-end cost.

Read Mercury ReviewVisit Mercury

Rho Business Checking: Payments and Operating Accounts

Rho lists $0 subscription and per-user fees, together with no Rho charge for ordinary ACH and wire payments. Its operating-account tools allow a business to organize money into additional accounts for purposes such as payroll or taxes. Accounts-payable and expense tools are part of its platform.

A Practical Fit: A business coordinating supplier payments and internal cash organization across a finance team.

Check Before Applying: Confirm eligibility and the exact account and card arrangements offered to your business. International transfers have separate currency-conversion and optional SWIFT charges, and other institutions may deduct fees. Rho's savings and investment offerings have different structures from checking; do not apply their advertised protection or return to every operating account.

Grasshopper Innovator: Interest-Bearing Digital Bank Checking

Grasshopper Bank's Innovator account has a $100 opening-deposit requirement and no monthly maintenance fee. It offers tiered checking interest, ACH services, bill pay and physical or virtual debit-card options. Cash deposits are available at selected deposit-enabled MoneyPass ATMs rather than through a staffed branch network.

A Practical Fit: A business seeking digital operations and checking interest in a direct bank relationship.

Check Before Applying: Locate an eligible deposit ATM if cash handling matters. Grasshopper's fee schedule lists a $10 outgoing domestic-wire fee, while a product-page footnote lists $5. Confirm the applicable fee before relying on either amount. Cashback has its own balance, purchase and account-standing conditions; it is separate from checking interest.

Bluevine Standard: Conditional Checking Interest and Sub-Accounts

Bluevine Standard has no monthly account fee and includes standard ACH, invoice tools and up to five sub-accounts. It currently lists 1.3% APY on eligible balances up to $250,000 when the account meets its monthly activity requirement.

A Practical Fit: A business that can satisfy the interest conditions while using sub-accounts and routine electronic payments.

Check Before Applying: Standard requires either $500 in monthly debit-card spending or $2,500 in qualifying customer payments. Cash deposits and outgoing wires have separate charges. Plus and Premier are paid plans with different interest and fee terms; their benefits should not be presented as Standard features.

Found Free Base: Checking With Built-In Recordkeeping

Found's $0 base plan includes invoice creation, expense categorization, reports and up to 20 Pockets for organizing funds. Its team tools distinguish Admin, Cardholder and Accountant access rather than treating every collaborator as an account administrator.

A Practical Fit: An owner-operated business that wants day-to-day banking activity connected to invoicing and bookkeeping tasks.

Check Before Applying: Some bookkeeping enhancements and interest benefits require a paid plan. Team-card orders and certain payment methods can have fees. Retail cash deposits follow published limits and a barcode workflow; they are not ATM deposits. Software tools help organize records but do not guarantee complete books or accurate tax filings.

Novo Business Checking: Invoices, Records and Reserves

Novo offers checking without a monthly service charge, together with invoicing and bookkeeping functions. Its Reserves allocate money into up to 20 internal budgeting categories. Those allocations are not 20 separate checking accounts.

A Practical Fit: A business organizing client receipts, upcoming expenses and bookkeeping within an online account.

Check Before Applying: Novo's fee schedule lists 0% APY and a charge for Express ACH. Native outgoing domestic wires are limited to selected eligible account holders; the schedule lists a fee of up to $45. International outgoing wires use a third-party service. Confirm the permissions available to collaborators instead of assuming access is restricted or equivalent to another provider's roles.

Lili Core: Base Banking With Optional Software Plans

Lili Core has no monthly fee. Standard ACH and incoming domestic wires are listed at $0, while outgoing domestic wires cost $15. Its debit card provides access to MoneyPass withdrawals and a participating-retailer route for cash deposits.

A Practical Fit: A business comparing a no-subscription banking account with the option to add financial software later.

Check Before Applying: Core checking does not pay interest; advertised savings yields refer to a different account. Invoicing, advanced bookkeeping and tax features have plan-specific requirements. Retailer cash-deposit charges and limits apply. Check current role and card permissions for the exact entity and plan rather than relying on a general team-access label.

Slash Free: Virtual Cards and Payment Controls

Slash's Free plan has a $0 subscription and lists unlimited virtual cards, user-permission tools and accounting feeds. Published Free-plan prices include $1 same-day ACH and $6 domestic wires. The optional Pro plan starts at $25 per month and changes those payment prices.

A Practical Fit: A business evaluating virtual-card administration and recurring electronic payments together.

Check Before Applying: Unlimited virtual cards does not mean unlimited users, payment amounts or every account feature. Confirm the card product's repayment rules and eligibility. International wires and foreign-currency card purchases have separate charges. An accounting feed is not the same as included native bookkeeping software.

Bank of America Fundamentals: Cash Processing and Shared Access

Business Advantage Fundamentals combines financial-center and ATM access with online banking and customizable employee permissions. Its ongoing monthly fee is $16, with introductory fee treatment and several waiver routes. The cash-processing allowance is distinct from its allowance for specified transaction items.

A Practical Fit: A business depositing cash and delegating banking tasks while considering other services through the same bank.

Check Before Applying: Review the exact waiver route and the transactions counted toward each allowance. Merchant processing, lockbox and other treasury services should be evaluated under their own enrollment and pricing terms. Published opening-deposit information has differed between Bank of America's product materials and Clarity Statement; confirm the requirement shown for your application.

Chase Business Complete: Branch Banking and Card Acceptance

Chase Business Complete Banking has a $15 monthly service fee with multiple qualifying waiver routes, including a $2,000 minimum daily ending balance. It brings branch access together with digital invoicing, QuickAccept card acceptance and online account-management controls.

A Practical Fit: A business combining cash deposits, customer payment acceptance and employee banking access.

Check Before Applying: Cash deposited at Chase ATMs is treated differently from specified non-ATM deposit routes. The included allowance for checks and banker-assisted activity is not a universal cap on every electronic transaction. Payment processing and additional ACH or wire services have their own fees and conditions.

Estimate the Cost of Your Checking Activity

Use a transaction list rather than a single headline fee. For each month, add the account subscription after any waiver, charges for the payment routes actually used, cash-processing fees and required optional services. Then assess checking interest separately, using the eligible balance and actual qualification rules.

The examples below isolate specified charges. They are not complete annual-cost estimates and do not promise that every account can execute identical transactions.

Minimum Daily Balance and Average Balance Are Different

Chase's balance-based waiver requires a $2,000 minimum daily ending balance. Bank of America's balance-based route uses a $5,000 combined average monthly balance in eligible linked business deposit accounts. Keeping enough money in the account on one day does not necessarily satisfy either test.

Bank of America also lists a qualifying $500 business-debit purchase route and Preferred Rewards for Business membership. Chase offers other qualifying routes, including eligible payment-processing deposits, qualifying business-credit-card purchases and specified relationship or military criteria. Confirm the complete terms for the route you expect to use. Without a waiver, twelve $15 monthly fees total $180; twelve $16 monthly fees total $192, excluding introductory treatment and all other activity.

One Domestic Wire Each Month

For an eligible business sending one ordinary outgoing domestic wire every month, the listed provider sending fees produce these annual amounts:

Reviewed AccountListed Fee per WireAnnual Sending Fees: 12 Wires
Mercury Base$0$0
Rho Business Checking$0$0
Bluevine Standard$15$180
Slash Free$6$72

These figures exclude other institutions' charges, international transfers, subscriptions, foreign exchange, recalls and unrelated account activity. They illustrate one payment method, not overall account quality or an exhaustive ranking of the ten providers.

When a Paid Payment Plan Changes the Math

Slash Pro's $25 monthly subscription is $300 annually. If the only savings being considered are domestic-wire fees, its $6 saving per wire equals that subscription at 50 wires per year: 50 × $6 = $300. At 51 wires, those isolated charges would be $306 on Free versus $300 on Pro.

Other transactions can change the comparison. Include any additional plan charges and only the services the business is eligible to use. This calculation does not recommend upgrading solely to reach a spending target.

A $500 Cash Deposit Is Not the Same Price Everywhere

Bluevine's current Allpoint+ fee is $1 plus 0.5% of the amount deposited. A $500 deposit therefore costs $3.50: $1 + ($500 × 0.005). Four such deposits total $14. Its Green Dot route instead lists a retail service charge of up to $4.95 per deposit.

Found’s cash-deposit help page lists one free cash deposit per month and a $2 fee for each additional deposit, while its fee schedule lists a $2 cash-deposit charge. Using the help page’s stated allowance, four eligible deposits in one month would cost $6. Confirm the applicable charge in the app before depositing. Deposit count and amount both matter; these examples are not a complete comparison of the accounts.

FinanceProspector's Take: Price the Route You Will Actually Use

Write down where a payment or deposit begins, how it moves and who receives it. Standard ACH, a same-day vendor payment, a card-funded invoice and an international wire are different services. Comparing their labels without checking the route can produce an inaccurate cost estimate.

Cash Deposits, Coins and Branch Access

For regular cash receipts, confirm a usable location before opening an account. A network logo may describe withdrawals, not deposits, and only some ATMs accept deposits.

Deposit RouteAccounts to ExaminePractical Check
Staffed Branch or Financial CenterChase and Bank of AmericaLocation, hours, deposit verification, cash-processing allowances and coin arrangements
Selected Deposit-Enabled ATMsGrasshopper; Bluevine through Allpoint+Correct machine, card compatibility, per-deposit fees and amount limits
Participating RetailersBluevine, Found and LiliBarcode or card workflow, retailer charge and both retailer/account limits
Electronic FundingMercury; confirm the precise funding options at every providerA withdrawal ATM or partner-bank branch does not establish a cash-deposit service

Bluevine lists a $7,500 rolling-30-day cash-deposit limit. Found lists $2,000 per rolling seven days and $4,000 per rolling 30 days. Lili directs customers to their in-app limits and notes that retailers can impose additional limits. Do not substitute a calendar month for a rolling period.

Bank of America Fundamentals includes the first $5,000 in cash deposits each statement cycle, then charges $0.30 per $100 above that amount. Chase Business Complete includes $5,000 through specified non-ATM routes and charges 0.30% above that threshold; Chase ATM cash deposits have no Chase cash-deposit charge under the cited schedule.

At $15,000 of cash in one statement period, the $10,000 above a $5,000 allowance produces $30 of excess-cash charges at the stated rate. That illustration applies to Bank of America's specified cash processing and Chase's specified non-ATM methods, not every deposit channel. Monthly maintenance and other charges are additional.

If you receive coins, ask the bank about sorting, wrapping, coin orders, handling charges and availability at the intended location. Do not assume a retail reload network or deposit-enabled ATM accepts coins or offers night-deposit services.

FinanceProspector’s Take: Check Cash Capacity Before Comparing Fees

A low deposit fee is useful only if the account can accommodate your cash receipts. Compare your busiest consecutive seven- and 30-day periods with the published limits, then confirm a convenient deposit location. An account that handles an average week may still fall short during a seasonal sales peak.

Checking Interest, Savings and Investment Yield

Compare interest on the checking account itself before including a separate savings account or investment product.

Grasshopper's published Innovator checking tiers are 1.00% APY below $25,000, 1.35% from $25,000 through $250,000, and 1.00% above $250,000. Its advertised money-market savings rate belongs to a separate product. Bluevine Standard's 1.3% APY applies to eligible balances up to $250,000 in qualifying months; Plus and Premier have different prices and interest terms.

For a hypothetical balance held at $25,000 for a full year, an unchanged 1.35% APY corresponds to $337.50 of interest. At 1.3% APY, the same balance corresponds to $325 if the account qualifies throughout the year. These examples assume the balance is eligible and interest remains in the account; rates can change, fees reduce net earnings, and failure to qualify changes the outcome. They are not highest-yield awards.

Novo's schedule states 0% APY, and Lili Core is non-interest-bearing checking. Found's interest benefits are attached to paid plans. Mercury Treasury and Rho Treasury are investment arrangements rather than interest on ordinary checking. Compare liquidity, eligibility, fees and investment risk separately from deposit-account interest.

FinanceProspector’s Take: Compare Interest You Can Earn Without Changing Your Spending

Start with the balance you expect to keep in checking and the qualification rules your normal activity would satisfy. Extra spending or a paid subscription can offset the value of a higher advertised yield. Compare the interest remaining after those additional costs, alongside the payment and deposit services your business needs.

International Payments and Currency Conversion

For each route, compare the sending fee, any receiving fee, currency-conversion charge and possible intermediary deduction. Also confirm supported countries, currencies, recipient types and your account's enabled services.

Provider RouteDocumented Pricing DistinctionWhat to Confirm
Mercury International WiresStandard USD sending fee $0; optional OUR processing $15; non-USD conversion fee 1%Possible intermediary deductions; OUR is not an unconditional full-receipt guarantee
Rho International PaymentsPublished conversion fee 1%; optional SWIFT fee $15Service/provider terms and recipient or intermediary charges
Bluevine Standard International PaymentsUSD outgoing $25; foreign-currency outgoing $25 plus 1.5%Supported routes, third-party service terms and any receiving-bank deductions
Novo International TransfersThird-party service rather than native outgoing international wiresThe third party's current quote and eligibility
Lili International WiresOutgoing fee listed at $25; conversion charges can applyLegal-entity eligibility, supported countries and the quoted exchange rate
Slash Free International WiresPublished sending fee $25Currency terms, deductions and applicable card-versus-wire fees

The table covers these documented routes, not a cheapest-international-payment ranking. For Grasshopper, Found, Chase and Bank of America, confirm the exact incoming or outgoing service, channel and currency against the applicable terms. Missing detail here does not mean a service is unavailable.

Sending a payment in another currency does not establish that an account can hold balances in that currency. Ask separately about currency holding, local account details and conversion timing if those functions are essential.

Team Access, Account Organization and Growth

Review capabilities by task rather than employee count alone. Ask who can view balances, edit bookkeeping entries, create a payee, initiate a transfer, approve a payment, issue a card and change another user's permissions.

Mercury documents configurable roles; Grasshopper describes user permissions and approval workflows; Slash lists advanced roles and card controls. Found distinguishes three roles and currently permits up to fifteen active team members, counting outstanding invitations. Its Accountant role cannot move money or spend, but the detailed permissions table allows bookkeeping actions. Read the permission list rather than treating the role name as universally read-only.

Chase's Access & Security Manager describes account-level visibility, rights for payment services, daily limits and dual approvals. Bank of America's Account Management permits customized viewing and transaction access. Lili's agreement distinguishes several user types, with entity-specific conditions; confirm the roles and card access actually available under the selected plan.

Rho operating accounts, Bluevine sub-accounts, Found Pockets and Novo Reserves organize money differently. A label such as payroll or taxes does not establish a separate legal entity, an independently insured balance or a new bank account. Verify whether the business needs separate account numbers, internal allocations or separate businesses under different EINs.

For every provider, request the applicable payment-amount, mobile-deposit and user limits. Unlimited transaction counts or virtual cards do not imply unlimited dollars, users or instant access to deposited funds. If a limit depends on account approval or operating history, treat an increase as conditional.

When You Need More Than Base Checking

A more complex business may need a merchant-processing relationship, receivables collection, credit or treasury services in addition to checking. Evaluate those services separately instead of assuming an entry-level account includes the bank's complete commercial offering.

Chase Business Complete includes access to QuickAccept card acceptance, but payment processing has separate terms and charges. Bank of America offers Merchant Services under its own enrollment requirements; its treasury materials also describe services such as lockbox, account reconciliation and zero-balance accounts. Those are reasons to ask about a broader relationship, not included-feature claims for Fundamentals.

A relationship manager, lending facility or line of credit can have its own eligibility, underwriting, balance or pricing conditions. The same principle applies to fintech corporate cards and advanced software plans. Access to an application does not guarantee approval, a particular credit limit or included support.

FinanceProspector's Take: Check the Next Operating Requirement

Before switching, identify the next function your business will need: a second approver, a larger payroll, daily cash drops or a different collections process. Request the relevant limits and service terms now. Headcount by itself does not tell you when an account will fit—or when another service becomes necessary.

Banks, Fintech Platforms and Deposit Insurance

Grasshopper, Bank of America and Chase are banks. Mercury, Rho, Bluevine, Found, Novo, Lili and Slash are financial technology companies offering services through banking arrangements. Identify the legal bank holding the deposit and the governing account terms rather than assuming the brand on the app is the insured institution.

FDIC coverage is generally $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category. Balances in the same category at the same bank are aggregated; creating more Pockets or accounts does not automatically multiply protection.

A sweep arrangement may place eligible deposits at multiple banks. The advertised maximum depends on program participation, allocation, ownership, records and other deposits at those banks. Direct banks can offer sweep arrangements too. Confirm whether the quoted program applies to checking, a separate savings account or another product.

Deposit insurance addresses insured-bank failure, not every interruption involving an app or financial platform. Money must reach an insured bank and meet applicable requirements for pass-through coverage. FDIC insurance does not protect against a nonbank company's insolvency. Investment products are not FDIC-insured checking deposits and can lose value.

How We Evaluated These Accounts

This article compares the ten base accounts in FinanceProspector's current Business Banking review set. We examined provider pricing, operational help pages, account agreements and regulatory guidance, with a targeted source refresh in October 2026.

Our checking analysis focuses on payment routes and costs, cash-deposit practicality, interest conditions, delegated access, accounting workflows and deposit structure. Recommendations identify a supported use case; they do not establish a sole winner across every business need or the whole market.

Published feature-score averages shown in the provider cards summarize different sets of approved feature comparisons. They are not overall provider ratings or an identical scoring checklist across accounts. We have not recalculated them for this article or used community-review averages to create a composite score.

Fee examples use stated assumptions and arithmetic. We did not open accounts, test payment speed, measure support performance or verify individual approval outcomes. Where public information conflicts or a service is account-specific, the copy identifies the condition instead of substituting a favorable price or treating missing evidence as a missing feature.

Business Checking Account FAQs

Which Business Checking Account Is Best for My Business?

Start with the transactions and access your business requires. Compare eligible accounts on those tasks before looking at optional features. This guide identifies accounts to examine for particular workflows; it does not name one universal winner.

Can a Business Checking Account Have No Monthly Fee but Still Cost Money?

Yes. Outgoing wires, faster payments, cash deposits, merchant processing, card orders and optional subscriptions may have charges even when monthly account maintenance is $0. Use the exact plan and payment route when estimating cost.

What Should a Cash-Heavy Business Compare First?

Confirm a usable deposit location, the permitted cash amount, the deposit method and processing price. Check coins, night deposits and collection services separately. A withdrawal ATM does not necessarily accept deposits.

Does Checking Interest Make a Paid Plan Worthwhile?

Not automatically. Compare additional interest on the eligible balance with the subscription cost and transaction savings. Qualification, balance caps and variable rates matter. Savings or investment yields should not be counted as checking APY.

Are Budgeting Buckets Separate Bank Accounts?

Not necessarily. Novo Reserves, Found Pockets and bank sub-accounts have different structures. Confirm account numbers, permissions and payment functionality. A budget label alone does not create a separate business or additional insurance coverage.

Does Opening Checking Include Merchant Services or a Credit Line?

Not automatically. Merchant processing, cards, lending, lockbox and other treasury services may require separate enrollment, approval and fees. Check the service agreement rather than assuming the broader provider relationship is included in base checking.

What Does FDIC Insurance Cover When I Use a Fintech Platform?

Eligible deposits at an insured bank may receive pass-through coverage when applicable requirements are met. The standard limit and aggregation rules still apply. FDIC insurance does not insure the technology company itself or protect against its insolvency.

Where Can I Find Opening Requirements and a Broader Banking Comparison?

FinanceProspector's How to Open a Business Bank Account guide covers application preparation. The Best Business Bank Accounts article looks more broadly at banking workflows and account selection. Links to those resources and the ten provider reviews appear in Sources.
