Best Online Business Bank Accounts of 2026: Compare 8 Digital-First Options
An online business account should help you collect customer payments, pay suppliers, organize balances and manage access remotely. We compare eight online-first options from FinanceProspector's business-banking provider set, showing which tools come with the base account and which require an upgrade.
Quick Summary
- Compare Mercury and Rho for electronic payments and finance workflows. Their published base pricing includes domestic ACH and wires without a sending fee. International charges and optional services still need separate review.
- Compare Grasshopper and Bluevine for interest-bearing checking. Check the qualifying balance, activity conditions and account type before comparing a headline rate.
- Compare Found and Novo for included invoicing and bookkeeping. Assess the records, reports and payment methods your business needs rather than assuming every accounting task is included.
- Include Lili and Slash when comparing a broader digital setup. Separate base banking from paid software, payment options and other products.
Use these as starting points, not exclusive winners. Providers may offer overlapping features.

A $0 base fee does not make every transaction, software feature or separate financial product free. Availability remains subject to account eligibility and applicable terms.

Mercury: Payments and Connected Financial Tasks
Mercury's base account combines ACH, domestic wires, bill pay and invoice tools. Its pricing distinguishes those included services from Plus, Pro and separately priced add-ons.
If you are replacing several financial tools, check which tasks the base account covers. Creating an invoice, offering recurring invoices and collecting by ACH debit are different functions. Mercury charges for some through paid plans.
Mercury's pricing includes same-day and next-day ACH, USD checks and real-time payments at $0, with no required minimum balance. Its optional OUR handling for USD international wires is $15; non-USD wires have separate conversion charges.
Mercury supports sending and receiving real-time payments only through Column N.A. accounts; third-party fees may apply. Automatic transfers between Mercury accounts require both accounts to be at the same partner bank.
Mercury's mailed-check service and physical checkbooks are separate functions. The Send Money flow can print and mail a check; an Admin can also order a checkbook for an enabled checking account, with delivery restricted to U.S. addresses and territories.
Mercury supports Admin, Teammate and Accountant roles, plus configurable Custom access. Teammates can use assigned cards and reimbursements without seeing bank balances or sending payments. Custom permissions can restrict account access.
QuickBooks Online, Xero and NetSuite connections support transaction feeds; enriched accounting functions and plan requirements should be checked separately. A feed is not a full replacement for accounting software.
Mercury's pricing page shows Plus at $35 per month and Pro at $350 per month with monthly pricing selected. With annual pricing selected, it displays monthly equivalents of $29.90 and $299, respectively. Confirm the billing cadence, commitment and applicable subscription before upgrading.
Check Your Workflow: List the invoice, payment and accounting tasks you expect to perform each month, then identify the plan and any add-on required for each.

Rho: Banking Alongside AP and Expense Workflows
Rho publishes $0 subscription and per-user fees, with connected accounts payable, expense and accounting automation. Its pricing lists same-day ACH, wires and checks at $0, alongside separate foreign-currency and optional SWIFT charges.
Compare how your team prepares, reviews and records payments today with the proposed workflow. Check which information must reach your accounting system.
Rho provides preset and customizable user roles, departments, spending permissions and approval controls. Department budgets are tracking limits, not automatically hard blocks on spending.
Its documented native accounting connections include QuickBooks Online, NetSuite and Sage Intacct; Xero is supported through a bank feed.
Rho's published API and MCP connection can read account and transaction data. Their tokens cannot start payments or change the account. A dashboard user may have separate permission to prepare or approve payments.
Rho accepts eligible U.S. checks through remote image deposit in its mobile app or web application. Checks mailed or delivered to Rho or its partner-bank offices are not processed.
Its help page describes settlement in three business days. Risk-based monitoring can extend this, generally to six or seven business days. Submitting a check does not guarantee funds are available.
Check Your Workflow: Establish whether a bookkeeper, payment preparer and approver need different access. Confirm the specific roles and approval arrangements during evaluation.
Grasshopper: A Direct Bank Relationship Managed Online
Grasshopper Bank, N.A., offers Innovator Business Checking with no monthly maintenance fee, digital bill pay, user permissions and approval workflows. Its product page distinguishes checking interest from a separate money market savings account.
Grasshopper's fee schedule lists outgoing domestic wires at $10; its checking-page footnote lists $5. Confirm which charge applies before budgeting.
Grasshopper's fee schedule lists standard and same-day ACH and incoming domestic wires as complimentary. Instant external transfers cost 0.65% of the amount, with a $1 minimum and $10 maximum.
The same schedule lists complimentary physical and virtual debit-card issuance and connections to QuickBooks Online, Plaid and Autobooks; some Autobooks functions can have separate charges.
Its user controls include account-level permissions, customizable approval limits and Dual Control, under which separate users initiate and approve transactions. The product-features table describes relationships with no more than two entities and four signers; businesses with a different structure should confirm the appropriate product.
Grasshopper's features comparison also describes an outgoing-wire rebate in the following month when the qualifying monthly average balance is at least $25,000. The cost illustrations below exclude that conditional rebate; confirm both the applicable fee and rebate eligibility.
Check Your Workflow: Review account permissions, the relevant checking interest tier and any deposit methods you expect to use.

Bluevine: Sub-Accounts and Customer Payment Tools
Bluevine Standard includes up to five sub-accounts, free standard ACH, invoices and payment links. Plus and Premier have different prices, account allowances and payment-fee discounts.
Standard's advertised checking interest is conditional. A rate shown for a paid plan should not be attributed to Standard, and a paid-plan fee waiver should not be assumed without checking its requirements.
Bluevine's published plan allowances differ:
| Plan | Monthly Fee Before Waiver | Sub-Account Allowance | Checking APY and Balance Scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $0 | Up to 5 | 1.3% on eligible balances up to $250,000, with the qualifying activity described below |
| Plus | $30 | Up to 10 | 1.75% on eligible balances up to $250,000 |
| Premier | $95 | Up to 50 | 3.0% on eligible balances, without a published balance cap |
The Plus fee waiver requires both at least $20,000 average daily balance across checking and sub-accounts and $2,000 debit-card spending per billing period. Premier requires both $100,000 and $5,000, respectively. Confirm eligible spending and billing-period rules. These waivers differ from Standard's interest qualification.
Its plans support automatic sub-account transfer rules and physical or virtual debit cards for main and sub-accounts. Review each user's account permissions rather than assuming card access gives full banking access.
Bluevine documents four additional-user roles: Authorized User, Accountant, Clerk and Employee. Authorized User permissions can be customized for company administration or payment approval. Accountant and Clerk payments route for approval; a Clerk can manage payees and bills but cannot view account balances. Employee access is designed for card spending without full financial access.
Check the permission matrix and selected settings rather than assuming every added user can move money independently.
Bluevine's fee table lists a $0 minimum required deposit for all three plans. That opening requirement is separate from the balance tests for interest and fee waivers.
Check Your Workflow: Decide whether you need separate account details for a particular payment stream, automated transfers between balances or team access to selected accounts. Confirm how those functions work for your plan.

Found: Banking Records and Included Bookkeeping
Found's $0 plan includes expense categorization, receipt scanning, profit-and-loss reporting, tax tools and invoicing. It also lists up to 20 Pockets for organizing funds.
These tools may keep more of your financial records in one place. They do not guarantee correct transaction categories or replace an accountant's assessment of your reporting obligations.
Found's contractor tools handle payments, W-9 requests, and 1099-NEC creation and electronic filing. Using these tools does not confirm whether a payment is reportable or guarantee correct tax filings.
The account can have up to 10 physical cards and 20 active virtual cards.
These are card limits, not a count of permitted users. Cards can have individual spending limits and be linked to a selected Pocket; physical team cards cost $5 each, while virtual cards are free.
A restricted Found Cardholder can view their own card and submit their own receipts, but cannot see balances or other account activity, or move money. An Admin with a card keeps administrative access.
Found starts with Primary and Taxes Pockets and permits up to 18 additional Pockets. Each Pocket has its own account number within the Found account.
Percentage allocations can direct incoming Primary-Pocket deposits into selected Pockets; deposits can also go directly to a Pocket's account number. Allocations and internal transfers do not establish separate insurance limits.
| Found Plan | Subscription | Published Interest and Reward Distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Found | $0 | Paid-plan interest and rewards are not assumed for the free plan |
| Plus | $35 monthly or $315 annually | Variable 1.50% APY on balances up to $20,000 |
| Pro | $80 monthly or $720 annually | Variable 2.50% APY on balances without a published cap; 1% cash back on qualifying card purchases, subject to exclusions and reward terms |
Found's pricing states no required minimum balance and includes standard ACH and incoming domestic wires. A paid plan is not required simply to receive those listed services.
Check Your Workflow: Review a sample month of transactions and identify how you would categorize expenses, attach records and share information with your accountant.
Novo: Invoices and Internal Budgeting Reserves
Novo includes invoicing and bookkeeping with its business checking account. Its Reserves organize funds into up to 20 internal buckets, with percentage-based allocation rules.
A Reserve stays within the same checking account; it is not automatically a deposit account with a separate number. Check this distinction if a payer or vendor needs different bank details.
Check Your Workflow: Decide whether your goal is to label money internally or to receive and pay funds through separate account details. Review optional payment charges separately from the monthly account fee.
Lili: Core Banking and Optional Financial Software
Lili Core has no monthly fee and includes standard ACH and incoming domestic wires at $0 under its published banking terms. Lili also offers financial software and other products whose availability depends on the plan and service.
With Lili, check payment functions separately from the bookkeeping, invoicing or other software you need.
Lili's standard subscriptions are Pro at $15 monthly or $144 annually, Smart at $35 or $336, and Premium at $55 or $528. Introductory discounts are separate. Smart and Premium include the documented Bill Pay hub; it should not be attributed to Core merely because Core supports payments.
Documented roles include Owner, Admin, Manager, Viewer, Bookkeeper and Bill Payer, with different money-movement permissions. Team-card documentation allows up to 100 eligible cards, including up to 10 physical cards. Confirm eligibility, role permissions and any approval threshold before delegating access.
Lili charges $3 for its mailed-check service. Domestic MoneyPass ATM withdrawals have no Lili fee; domestic out-of-network withdrawals have a $2.50 Lili fee plus any ATM-owner surcharge. A withdrawal-network membership does not establish cash-deposit access.
Lili's published plans state no minimum opening deposit, and its fee guidance states no required minimum balance. Those terms do not waive paid subscriptions or transaction charges.
Check Your Workflow: Confirm the specific accounting, payroll or payment connection you need, its direction of data transfer and any subscription required.
Slash: Cards and Plan-Based Payment Pricing
Slash Free lists $1 same-day ACH and $6 domestic wires. Pro costs $25 per month and lists those transfers at $0. The pricing page also includes virtual cards; other payment types have their own charges.
Compare Free and Pro against the activity and features you need. A subscription can change transaction costs without making all international, card or other services free.
Check Your Workflow: Identify the actual payment rails and card controls you use, then compare the relevant plan's complete charges.
Eligibility and Online Application Requirements
Online access does not establish eligibility. Check the business's legal structure, where it operates, the owners' countries of residence and any industry restrictions before starting an application.
Have the following information ready, subject to the provider's requirements:
- Legal business name, entity type and formation or registration documents.
- Tax identification details accepted for the business and applicant.
- Business address, operating location, industry and expected account activity.
- Government-issued identification and the ownership information requested for owners and a control person.
- Supporting records for an address, business activity or source of funds when requested.
If required, prepare DBA or fictitious-name records and the operating agreement, bylaws or partnership documents showing ownership and signing authority. Not every applicant needs all these documents.
Selected provider rules illustrate why one checklist does not fit every applicant:
| Provider | Documented Requirement or Distinction |
|---|---|
| Mercury | Company formed and registered in the U.S. or a U.S. territory, with existing or planned U.S. operations. Eligible international founders can apply; residence and industry restrictions apply. |
| Rho | U.S. incorporation and applicable U.S.-presence requirements. Review the current operating-address and owner requirements for your application. |
| Grasshopper | Applicant at least 18, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, with a verifiable address in the 50 states or Washington, D.C.; other restrictions apply. The opening deposit is $100. |
| Bluevine | Applicant at least 18 representing a U.S.-registered business and residing in the U.S. or a supported country. Accepted entity types differ between U.S.-based and international applicants. |
| Found | A valid Social Security number is required; Found states that ITINs are not accepted. |
| Lili | The application asks for formation documents, an IRS-issued EIN and identification for a person with operating control and owners with at least 25% ownership. Additional documents may be requested. |
| Slash | Its standard business platform and Global USD Account have different eligibility and documentation requirements. The standard platform is for U.S.-incorporated entities; do not substitute the Global USD product's requirements. |
These are selected requirements, not complete acceptance criteria. Novo's document requirements vary by entity and state. Check each provider's current requirements for your business, including Found's; another provider's rules may differ.
An EIN identifies the business but does not, by itself, meet a provider's identification requirements for an applicant or owner. Mercury's acceptance of eligible international founders does not mean it accepts every foreign identity document or ITIN.
Check eligibility and documents for each legal entity. An internal budgeting bucket, sub-account or Reserve does not automatically create a banking relationship for another business.
Rho's checking product page describes eligible LLCs and corporations and excludes sole proprietorships. Its detailed U.S.-presence criteria should still be confirmed for the particular application. Found identifies sole proprietors, single- and multi-member LLCs, S-Corps and C-Corps among the business structures it serves, subject to verification.
Rho's location-eligibility help article specifies U.S. incorporation plus either a U.S. operating address or at least one U.S.-based business owner with a valid SSN. Its geographic restrictions and the remaining application checks still apply; this is not a promise of acceptance.
Lili's general opening guidance requires an applicant aged at least 18 and a U.S.-formed business. Its supported structures include single- and multi-member LLCs, S-Corps, C-Corps, general and limited liability partnerships, sole proprietors with a DBA, and nonprofits.
The international-owner pathway is narrower: it lists LLCs, corporations and partnerships, excludes sole proprietorships, and requires citizenship from a supported country for owners meeting its ownership threshold. That pathway accepts passport details and U.S. or international residence and operating addresses; the business must still be U.S.-registered, and card delivery requires a U.S. address.
Do not apply the general U.S.-resident checklist universally to international applicants.
Mercury requests details for individuals who directly or indirectly own at least 25% and for a senior control person. Its operating-address requirements permit a U.S. or international principal place of business, including residential addresses, but not registered-agent, P.O. box or UPS Store addresses.
Bluevine's eligible international-owner pathway uses a passport, EIN and on-camera verification, with ownership and address information; supported countries and entity types still apply.
A short application does not promise immediate approval. Business and ownership checks, and requests for supporting records, can continue after you submit it.
Test the Workflow Before Choosing the Account
A feature checklist is more useful when it follows a real task. Use these questions to evaluate the account alongside its published terms.
| Task | What to Establish |
|---|---|
| Collect a customer payment | Supported payment method, processing charge, settlement conditions and reconciliation |
| Pay a supplier | Available rail, approval steps, cutoff, sending limit and fee |
| Organize operating funds | Separate account details or internal buckets, allocation rules and access rights |
| Delegate bookkeeping | What the user can view, edit, export and initiate |
| Connect accounting software | Supported software edition, transaction feed, categorization or synchronization functions |
| Handle an exception | Support route, relevant business hours and access to statements or payment records |
An integration may transfer transaction data, sync accounting entries or support payments. These are different functions. Check what it does rather than relying on a software logo.
FinanceProspector's Take: Follow One Payment From Start to Finish
Follow a customer payment until the money is available, then a supplier payment through to your books. Check that both entries reach your records. This can reveal missing functions or extra paid services before you rely on the account.
Payment Timing Depends on the Route
A payment processor's payout schedule, the bank transfer and the availability of deposited funds are separate stages. Published timing for one stage should not be treated as a guarantee for the whole process.
| Provider and Activity | Published Timing or Restriction |
|---|---|
| Mercury mobile check deposit | After approval, a check can take up to five business days to post. A check submitted after the noon Pacific cutoff may settle on the sixth business day. Review and approval come before that timing. |
| Novo standard outgoing ACH | Novo's guidance describes two to three business days. Review the payment's status and applicable terms rather than treating that window as a guaranteed arrival date. |
| Lili wires | The account agreement lists business-day processing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern. New-customer restrictions may apply during the first 30 days; eligibility, review and the particular wire service still matter. |
Before moving payroll or customer receipts, check current deposit limits, holds and payment cutoffs. Uploading a deposit or submitting a payment does not mean the funds are available to spend.
Compare the Specific Domestic Payment Charge
| Provider or Plan | Standard ACH | Expedited ACH | Outgoing Domestic Wire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercury | $0 | Published same-day ACH $0 | $0 |
| Rho | Published domestic ACH $0 | Published same-day ACH $0 | $0 |
| Grasshopper Innovator | Complimentary | Same-day ACH complimentary | Fee schedule $10; checking-page footnote $5; confirm the applicable charge |
| Bluevine Standard / Plus / Premier | $0 | Same-day ACH $10 / $8 / $5 | $15 / $12 / $7.50 |
| Found / Plus / Pro | Included | No comparable expedited vendor-payment charge established for the model below | $15 / $15 / $10 |
| Lili | $0 | Express ACH 1.5%, minimum $0.50 and maximum $20 | $15 |
| Slash Free / Pro | Confirm the particular standard-transfer route | Same-day ACH $1 / $0 | $6 / $0 |
| Novo | Confirm the account's current payment terms | Review the Express ACH quote and eligibility | Confirm the available native or third-party route and charge |
This is a selected sending-fee comparison, not a full schedule. Found's linked-external-account Express/Instant documentation is not treated as equivalent to expedited payment to an unrelated vendor. A charge not established here is not assigned $0. All payments remain subject to eligibility, limits, cutoffs and review.
Compare Base Tools With Paid Upgrades
Calculate the cost of the combination you need, including optional software and transaction charges.
Consider a business using Slash for 30 same-day ACH transfers and 10 domestic wires in one month. At the published Free prices, those sending charges total $90: 30 × $1 plus 10 × $6. Pro's $25 monthly subscription and $0 charges for those two rails total $25 for this isolated example, a $65 difference.
This example assumes the listed prices apply and the payments qualify. It excludes other transactions, third-party costs, taxes and separate products; it does not forecast your total banking cost.
Before upgrading, ask which task changes. Compare an included bank feed, optional accounting package and full bookkeeping service as different products.
Compare Three Illustrative Operating Profiles
These profiles isolate domestic sending charges. Each expedited ACH is assumed to be $1,000, with the same activity repeated every month for a year.
| Monthly Activity | Digital Operator | Growing Digital | Finance-Team |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard ACH | 20 | 60 | 120 |
| Expedited ACH | 2 | 8 | 15 |
| Outgoing Domestic Wires | 1 | 6 | 15 |
| Provider or Plan | Digital Operator: Annual Charges | Growing Digital: Annual Charges | Finance-Team: Annual Charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mercury base | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Rho | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Grasshopper Innovator, using the fee schedule's $10 wire price | $120 | $720 | $1,800 |
| Grasshopper Innovator, if the $5 checking-page wire price applies | $60 | $360 | $900 |
| Bluevine Standard | $420 | $2,040 | $4,500 |
| Bluevine Plus, monthly subscription without waiver | $696 | $1,992 | $3,960 |
| Bluevine Premier, monthly subscription without waiver | $1,350 | $2,160 | $3,390 |
| Lili Core | $540 | $2,520 | $5,400 |
| Slash Free, same-day ACH and wires only | $96 | $528 | $1,260 |
| Slash Pro, monthly subscription and those two rails | $300 | $300 | $300 |
| Found | Not comparable for the specified expedited vendor-payment activity | Not comparable | Not comparable |
| Novo | Not modeled without a verified account-specific wire route and price | Not modeled | Not modeled |
Annual charges equal 12 times the applicable monthly subscription and sending fees. For example, Bluevine Standard's Growing Digital result is 12 × (8 × $10 + 6 × $15) = $2,040. Lili's $1,000 Express ACH charge is $15 under its percentage fee, producing 12 × (8 × $15 + 6 × $15) = $2,520 for that profile.
The Grasshopper rows show both sides of the documented price conflict; neither price is promised. Slash totals cover only the named paid transfer types and subscription, not every standard-transfer route in the profile. Found and Novo have no invented results to fill the table.
These fee examples are not rankings, recommendations or forecasts. They exclude cash deposits, international transfers, processing fees, card charges, yield, rewards, taxes and other services. Payments must be available, within limits and priced as shown. No subscription discounts or Bluevine fee waivers are assumed. A $0 result covers only the charges modeled.
Separate Transaction Savings From Other Upgrade Benefits
For Bluevine Plus, monthly transaction savings against Standard are $2 per same-day ACH plus $3 per outgoing domestic wire. Those savings equal the $30 subscription at break-even; greater savings exceed the subscription.
For Premier, the corresponding amounts are $5 and $7.50 against a $95 subscription. APY and fee-waiver requirements are separate from that calculation.
Mercury's paid plans do not lower the modeled $0 core ACH/wire charges. Their value depends on the additional functions required. Lili's paid plans likewise need to be evaluated for plan features and separate savings eligibility rather than assumed to remove its transfer charges.
For Found Plus, $20,000 × 1.50% = $300 is a simplified annual comparison, below the $315 annual subscription. It is not an exact payout forecast: the balance cap, interest-crediting method and balance changes affect earnings.
For Pro, $720 divided by 2.50% gives a simplified APY-only break-even balance of $28,800. These comparisons assume an unchanged rate and exclude tax, other charges and the value of other plan features. Rates are variable and returns are not guaranteed.
Organize Access and Balances Deliberately
Decide who needs to prepare payments, approve them, manage cards and maintain records. Confirm each role's actual permissions before giving access.
For balances, distinguish internal budgeting labels from separately numbered accounts. Neither automatically adds deposit insurance.
When moving an existing business, identify the customer, payroll, tax and vendor instructions tied to the old account. Verify replacement payment details through a trusted channel before changing them.
International Payments and Currency Conversion
Compare the sending fee, currency-conversion charge, receiving arrangements and any intermediary deductions separately. A U.S. account number does not establish that the account can hold foreign-currency balances or send every type of international payment.
| Provider or Plan | Documented Outgoing International Payment Terms | What to Check |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | USD international wires have a $0 Mercury sending fee; non-USD wires have a 1% currency-exchange fee. | Standard USD processing may involve intermediary charges; optional OUR handling has separate terms. |
| Rho | Pricing lists a 1% foreign-currency transfer/conversion fee and an optional $15 SWIFT fee. | USD transfers may incur recipient, correspondent or intermediary charges. |
| Grasshopper Innovator | Published schedule lists $25 outgoing international wires and $5 incoming international wires. | Confirm supported currency, destination and any conversion arrangement. |
| Bluevine Standard | $25 outgoing USD international wire; $25 plus 1.5% for an outgoing foreign-currency wire. | Paid plans have different prices; eligibility and supported destinations apply. |
| Novo | Outgoing international wires use Wise or another third party rather than a native Novo international-wire service. | Obtain the third party's quote, availability and transfer terms. |
| Lili | Business-banking pricing lists $25 outgoing international wires. | The account agreement lists a 1% commission on the USD principal for converted wires, reflected in the rate, plus possible correspondent conversion charges. |
| Slash | Free and Pro both list $25 international wire transfers. | Confirm destination, currency and any additional charges before sending. |
This is a comparison of selected documented terms, not a complete international fee schedule. It does not establish outgoing international capability for Found. If a required transfer route is not established by the documentation, confirm it with the provider before relying on the account.
For example, a $4,000 foreign-currency payment at Bluevine Standard's listed $25 plus 1.5% charge produces $85 in those specified fees: $25 + $60. That calculation excludes other charges and exchange-rate effects. Compare a quote for the same destination, currency and recipient amount when evaluating another service.
Lili's general transfer help says outgoing international wires can be sent only in USD, while its account agreement and international-payments page describe converted-wire terms. Confirm the route currently available to your account before relying on an FX option or its quoted charge.
Lili's international-payments page also uses different currency counts: its navigation says over 130, while the main product text says 140-plus. Neither figure establishes the current destinations or currencies available to a particular account. Check the current supported-country list and an account-specific payment quote rather than using either count as a settled allowance.
The same page describes processing until 4:30 p.m. Eastern, while the cited account agreement states 4 p.m.; confirm the cutoff for the actual service.
Mercury documents outgoing conversion into more than 40 currencies. Rho documents Global FX transfers to more than 200 countries and territories, subject to restrictions. These are different measures: a country count does not establish the number of supported currencies, foreign-currency balances or availability to every owner and industry.
Receiving an International Wire Is a Separate Capability
Found's funding guidance accepts incoming international wires in USD. The sender must use the supported instructions; that does not establish a native outgoing international-wire service. Lili's incoming international guidance lists a $15 fee and explains that provider and intermediary charges can also apply. Its international-wire eligibility is limited to qualifying legal entities, including LLCs, corporations and partnerships, rather than sole proprietorships.
Bluevine's incoming international fee remains a source conflict: its Standard fee table shows $15 while its contact FAQ has shown $25. Obtain the current applicable quote instead of treating either as a universally settled charge. Check the recipient's account instructions and supported currency independently of the sending service's advertised international reach.
Keep Operating Cash Separate From Yield Comparisons
Checking interest, a separate savings account and an investment product serve different purposes. Compare the account holding the money, the conditions for earning a return and the process for moving funds back into operating use.
Grasshopper's product page describes checking and money market savings separately. Bluevine prices Standard, Plus and Premier checking separately. Mercury identifies Treasury as an investment service, not an ordinary checking balance.
| Checking Account | Published Interest Terms |
|---|---|
| Grasshopper Innovator | 1.00% APY below $25,000; 1.35% from $25,000 through $250,000; 1.00% above $250,000. |
| Bluevine Standard | 1.3% APY on eligible balances up to $250,000 when monthly qualifying activity is met: $500 debit-card spending or $2,500 in customer payments. |
Rates are variable and fees can reduce earnings. These are checking terms, not the rates on separate savings or investment products.
Do not assume an investment yield has the same deposit protection or access conditions as checking. Keep enough accessible operating cash for the payment obligations you have identified.
Separate Savings and Treasury Terms
Rho Business Savings is separate from checking. Its published variable rate is up to 1.00% APY with a $25,000 average monthly balance, and transfers back to checking are limited to six per month. Those conditions matter when reserves must cover frequent operating payments.
Grasshopper's Innovator Savings product page states 1.55% APY below $25,000 and 3.25% at $25,000 or more, with terms effective October 13, 2026. Its older features comparison still states 3.00% for the upper tier. Confirm the applicable current rate; neither savings rate is Innovator Checking's APY.
Lili's savings disclosures describe 2.25% APY on the first $500,000 and 4.00% on the portion above $500,000 through $1 million, with no interest on the portion above $1 million. Its plan/legal pages describe availability across plans, while some help pages restrict savings to Pro, Smart and Premium.
Confirm eligibility before attributing this benefit to Core.
Mercury Treasury requires at least $250,000 across Mercury accounts under its published eligibility. It invests through separate fund products, including a government money-market share class and an ultra-short bond fund. It is not an FDIC-insured checking or savings deposit, and investment value can fluctuate.
Access, fees and investment risks should be reviewed independently of an advertised yield.
Rho Treasury is also a separate securities product, distinct from Rho Business Savings. Its product page describes a $50,000 minimum investment, allocations among U.S. Treasury bills, a money-market fund and an ultra-short income fund, and standing transfer rules. Investment values can decline and the product is not FDIC-insured.
Published liquidity statements differ by investment and transaction terms; do not assume immediate access or treat an investment yield as checking APY.
Debit Rewards Have Separate Qualification Rules
Grasshopper's 1% debit-card cash back applies to qualifying signature-based purchases, subject to its reward terms. Qualification includes an average calendar-month balance of at least $10,000 and an open, active account in good standing, including its stated no-NSF requirement for the preceding 12 months. Exclusions and transaction-processing rules apply. Do not count every debit transaction as reward-eligible or treat this cash back as checking interest.
Cash Deposits and Branch Requirements
An online-first account can provide a network deposit route, but a participating ATM or retailer is not a staffed bank branch. Find a location that supports your provider's actual deposit method before treating a network name as sufficient.
| Provider | Documented Cash-Deposit Route | Fees and Limits to Consider |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | Cash deposits are not supported. | Depositing at a partner bank's branch is not an available Mercury cash-deposit route. |
| Grasshopper | Select deposit-enabled MoneyPass ATMs. | Confirm the particular ATM accepts deposits and check the account's applicable limits. Withdrawal-network access does not establish deposit access. |
| Bluevine | Allpoint+ deposit-enabled ATMs and Green Dot retail locations. | Allpoint+: $1 plus 0.5% of the deposit, up to $1,000 per transaction, $5,500 daily and $7,500 per rolling 30 days. Green Dot has different transaction and daily limits and a retail fee up to $4.95. |
| Found | Participating retailers using a barcode generated in the Found app; not ATM cash deposits. | Found's cash-deposit help page lists one free deposit per month and a $2 fee for each additional deposit; its fee schedule lists a $2 cash-deposit charge. Confirm the applicable charge in the app before depositing. The help page lists limits of $2,000 per rolling seven days and $4,000 per rolling 30 days; merchant limits can also apply. |
| Lili | Participating retailers using the Lili debit card. | Lili states it does not charge a cash-deposit fee; the retailer may charge a service fee, typically up to $4.95. Check current app limits and the retailer's separate limits. |
This table lists deposit routes confirmed by the cited sources. An omission says nothing about whether a provider accepts cash. Keep receipts and distinguish provider fees from retailer or ATM fees.
Rho states that it does not support cash deposits. That restriction differs from its remote check-deposit service.
Found reports more than 79,000 participating retail cash-deposit locations; Lili reports more than 90,000. These totals do not guarantee a nearby retailer accepts your deposit. Use the app locator and check the service, limits and hours.
Do not assume a currency-deposit service also accepts coins, money orders or other instruments. Confirm the form of deposit and the location's acceptance rules.
Withdrawal access is a separate comparison. Grasshopper's Innovator page lists fee-free Allpoint, MoneyPass and SUM withdrawals. Bluevine lists fee-free MoneyPass withdrawals and a $2.50 Bluevine charge outside that network, with possible operator charges. Lili also uses MoneyPass for fee-free domestic withdrawals. Mercury's physical debit card works at compatible chip-enabled Mastercard ATMs; operator and non-USD conversion charges can apply. None of these withdrawal statements establishes a cash-deposit route.
If your business also needs branch transactions, compare Chase and Bank of America as additional banking relationships. They are outside this article's eight online-first profiles; the broader Business Banking comparisons cover those accounts.
FinanceProspector's Take: Match the Cash-Deposit Route to Your Routine
Before choosing an online account, locate a participating deposit location and compare its limits with your normal cash receipts. Bluevine's ATM route, Found's barcode process and Lili's retailer route work differently. A nearby withdrawal ATM does not necessarily accept deposits.
Understand the Deposit Arrangement
Grasshopper is a bank. The other seven providers are fintech companies offering banking services through partner banks. Read your deposit-product agreement to identify the insured institution; do not rely on the platform name.
Standard FDIC insurance is $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, for each ownership category. Eligible funds placed across a sweep network may receive additional aggregate coverage, subject to the program and applicable insurance requirements. Other deposits held at participating banks can affect the available coverage.
Deposit insurance does not ensure continuous app access. Plan how to get help, keep records and meet essential obligations if the online service is temporarily unavailable.
Identify the Bank for the Specific Product
| Platform | Published Deposit-Bank Arrangement |
|---|---|
| Mercury | Banking services through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A. Check the agreement applicable to the account. |
| Rho | Published banking disclosures name Webster Bank, a division of Santander Bank, N.A., and Lead Bank, as applicable. Savings uses American Deposit Management Co. and its partner banks; that arrangement is separate from checking. |
| Grasshopper | Innovator Business Checking is offered directly by Grasshopper Bank, N.A. |
| Bluevine | Banking services through Coastal Community Bank, with eligible deposits potentially placed at program banks through its sweep arrangement. |
| Found | Banking services through Lead Bank. |
| Novo | Business checking banking services through Middlesex Federal Savings, F.A. |
| Lili | Deposit-account services through Sunrise Banks, N.A.; the agreement identifies Column N.A. for wire services. |
| Slash | Banking services through Column N.A., with participating banks under the Column Sweep Network program. |
These are product-specific disclosures, not a ranking of safety. A card issuer, wire-service provider or investment provider can differ from the bank holding a checking deposit. Confirm the current account agreement and any sweep-bank list before relying on a coverage amount.
Published maximums apply to different products. Mercury advertises up to $5 million through its partner-bank sweep arrangements, while Bluevine and Lili advertise up to $3 million under their programs. Rho describes standard checking coverage separately from Business Savings, which advertises up to $75 million in program capacity through American Deposit Management Co. and its network of more than 400 partner banks, on a commercially reasonable efforts basis rather than a guarantee.
Grasshopper advertises access to enhanced coverage up to $125 million through its eligible savings/network arrangement; that is separate from standard direct-bank coverage. Found's published Lead Bank disclosure uses the standard $250,000 limit per depositor and ownership category. These figures are not additive promises, safety ratings or insurance for a nonbank company.
Review enrollment, allocations and other deposits at participating banks.
Deposit Coverage and Access Are Different Questions
FDIC coverage protects eligible deposits when an insured bank fails, subject to the insurance rules. It does not insure a nonbank platform against its own failure. Pass-through coverage depends on applicable requirements, including the underlying ownership and deposit records. An interruption at a nonbank service can delay access even when money has been deposited at an insured bank.
Keep statements, account details and support contacts to prepare for an interruption. This adds no insurance and does not guarantee immediate access. Partner-bank counts alone do not show that one platform is safer.
A second relationship may serve a specific operational need: staffed branch transactions, specialized commercial or real-estate lending, negotiated treasury services, trade services or access to money through a separate institution during an interruption. Availability and approval are separate questions. Identify the obligations a backup balance would need to cover, including payroll, taxes and essential suppliers; neither insurance nor a backup account guarantees uninterrupted processing.
Support and Servicing
For an account managed remotely, identify the route for an ordinary question, a payment issue and a problem logging in. Published availability describes access to a channel, not a guaranteed resolution time.
| Provider | Documented Support Route | Availability or Product Distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Mercury | Dashboard messaging, with email or a contact route when unable to log in. | Mercury publishes 24/7 availability; Plus and Pro include priority support. |
| Rho | Phone, email and logged-in live chat. | Rho states that all three channels have human staffing 24/7 on every account. |
| Grasshopper | Published Client Services phone and email routes. | Published hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Eastern. |
| Bluevine | Email and signed-in live chat through its contact page. | Check current staffed hours for the service required; access to online help is not a promise of round-the-clock human assistance. |
| Found | In-app virtual assistant, email and phone. | Virtual assistant 24/7; customer phone support Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Pacific. Plus/Pro get priority phone support; Pro adds an account manager. |
| Novo | In-app support ticket/chat and email when unable to log in. | Novo states that phone support is not offered during the application process; application chat and email are available. |
| Lili | In-app Help Center, email and phone. | Confirm staffed hours and any plan-specific service before depending on a particular response window. |
| Slash | Help Center and published support email. | Confirm live-service hours and any escalation route needed for your business. |
Mercury estimates a typical response within five minutes. This is not a contractual deadline or a promise to resolve the issue in that time. For other providers, check current human-support hours and escalation routes; access to an assistant does not promise human support.
Lili's contact-help article publishes email hours of Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern, and Saturday–Sunday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; phone hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Its one-to-two-business-day email/web-form response aim depends on complexity and is not a resolution guarantee. Confirm current hours, including holiday and daylight-saving treatment, before a time-sensitive request.
Keep provider contact details outside the account. Before a payroll or supplier deadline, check both support hours and the payment network's operating hours and cutoffs.
FinanceProspector's Take: Separate Support Availability From Payment Availability
Check whether help comes from a person or virtual assistant, when human support is staffed and whether priority service requires a paid plan. Round-the-clock support does not mean every payment can be processed around the clock.
Move Online Banking in Stages
Build a migration checklist around the systems connected to the account rather than moving only the balance.
- Confirm the New Account's Required Functions: Complete verification, obtain the relevant payment instructions and review limits before redirecting business activity.
- Map Connected Systems: List merchant processors, customer invoices, payroll, tax payments, vendor debits, cards and accounting connections.
- Validate Changes: Use a trusted channel to confirm bank-detail changes and test the workflows you intend to use where appropriate.
- Move Activity in Groups: Track which incoming and outgoing instructions have changed, including payments scheduled less often than monthly.
- Retain Records and Access: Download needed statements and transaction records. Review outstanding payments and deposits before requesting closure of an old account.
This is an operational planning checklist, not a guarantee that a transfer or account opening will be completed by a particular deadline.
Check the Individual Instructions, Not Just the Balance
- Review several months of statements for recurring and less-frequent activity, including quarterly or annual payments.
- Update merchant-processor and marketplace payout accounts separately from customer ACH or wire instructions and invoices.
- Check payroll funding deadlines and federal, state and local tax-payment instructions before a cutoff is missed.
- Update vendor debits, subscriptions, loan and insurance payments. Replacing a debit card does not update a debit authorized against an account number.
- Review employee cards, payment permissions, approval rules and spending limits when moving team activity.
- Retain statements, check images, tax records and transaction exports outside the old account. Obtain closure confirmation when the account is finally closed.
- Where practical, overlap the relationships until outstanding checks, debits, refunds, payouts and deposits have cleared. Less-frequent transactions may need a longer observation period than one monthly cycle. Keep enough available money for obligations that can still reach either account.
A dedicated business account helps separate company records from personal transactions. Check your entity's and provider's requirements; do not assume every business structure has the same legal account-opening obligation.
How We Evaluated These Options
We compare eight online-first providers in FinanceProspector's approved business-banking research set, not every available account. This is not a new numerical ranking.
We reviewed pricing, product descriptions and selected account documents for base charges, payments, included tools and product boundaries. When documents disagree, we identify the conflict rather than choose a favorable figure.
The account discussions focus on digital operating tasks. Our separate checking comparison examines transaction-account requirements in more detail, while the broader business-banking article includes branch-based options.
Selected Product Developments in 2026
Dated announcements help explain a feature's origin; current pricing and agreements still govern its availability.
- Mercury: June's Command announcement introduced AI-assisted account workflows within existing access controls. Its August Treasury announcement described the Morgan Stanley ultra-short bond fund and State Street government money-market share class replacing earlier offerings. These remain investment products, not checking APY.
- Bluevine: Its February release described updated Standard, Plus and Premier plans, estimates and business controls. July's update described recurring-invoice autopay, open-ended payment links, selective account access, sub-account debit cards and removal of Premier's prior interest-earning balance cap. Features described as coming soon in an announcement should not be assumed to have launched without current confirmation.
- Rho: Its March mobile release, subsequently updated, described receipt capture, reimbursement-status visibility and changes to balance and pending-activity views. Do not assume every desktop approval or integration task is available in the mobile app.
The same Rho announcement still describes team-card and vendor-card visibility as coming soon. That verifies an announced development, not that those functions are live. Confirm current mobile availability before including them in a required workflow.
- Lili: Its May announcement addressed multi-employee small businesses. June's BusinessBuild announcement concerned a separate credit-profile program involving Dun & Bradstreet. A checking subscription does not by itself establish eligibility for credit or guarantee an improved credit score.

Online Business Banking FAQs
Is an Online Business Account the Same as a Fintech Account?
No. An insured bank can offer an online account directly, while a fintech can provide an interface and services connected to a partner bank. Check the legal deposit provider and account agreement.
Does a $0 Monthly Fee Mean All Services Are Free?
No. Optional payment methods, software upgrades, card services or other products can have separate charges. Compare the plan you will use and the activity you expect.
Are Reserves and Sub-Accounts the Same Thing?
Not necessarily. Some products label balances within one account, while others provide additional account details. Confirm how outside payments, access controls and transfers work.
Can Included Bookkeeping Replace My Accounting Process?
It depends on the functions your business needs. Check reporting, recordkeeping and software connections, and confirm what work your accountant will still perform.
Should I Choose the Highest Advertised Yield?
Compare the product, conditions, balance limits and access to operating funds first. A savings rate or investment yield should not be presented as the return on an ordinary checking balance.
Can I Keep a Branch Account Alongside an Online Account?
Yes, subject to each provider's account requirements. If you maintain more than one relationship, define which account handles each payment stream and track the instructions and balances needed for both.
Is Business Checking the Whole Banking Relationship?
No. Checking is the transaction account used for everyday receipts and payments. A broader relationship can include separate savings, cards, payment acceptance, lending or treasury services. Each product has its own eligibility, costs and protections; availability of checking does not establish approval for another product.
