Business Banking
Chase vs. Bank of America Business Banking: Fees, Payments, Tools and Account Fit
The difference between these accounts starts with how your business holds and deposits money. Chase Business Complete Banking offers a $2,000 daily-balance route to waive its monthly fee. Bank of America Business Advantage Fundamentals Banking uses a $5,000 combined average across eligible linked business deposit accounts. A lower threshold and an average-balance test solve different cash-flow needs.
Cash handling can matter just as much. Chase's schedule separates ATM cash deposits from specified non-ATM routes; Bank of America combines ATM and financial-center cash deposits within its allowance. Start with your balance pattern and deposit routine, then compare payment charges, team access and the tools you need.

FinanceProspector Feature Scores
These are the individual feature scores from each provider’s review. Features are shown side by side only where their scoring criteria and assumptions match; the remaining scores are grouped by provider. A feature’s absence from a provider’s scored list does not mean it is unavailable. Business Banking feature scores use a display scale of 7.5–9.5, with 9.5 the highest possible score under this framework. No overall comparison score is calculated.
| Shared Feature | Chase Business Complete Banking | Bank of America Business Advantage Fundamentals Banking |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic Transfer Costs | 7.9/10Standard first ACH payment $2.50; outgoing domestic online wire $25; incoming domestic wire from another bank $15 | 8.1/10$1 standard three-business-day outgoing ACH, $30 outgoing domestic wire and $15 incoming domestic wire. Standard ACH eligibility applies. |

Introductory treatment, daily caps and optional settings are separate. |
| Cash Deposit and ATM Access | 9.5/10Cash deposits available; no Chase withdrawal fee at Chase ATMs | 9.5/10Cash deposits through the bank’s documented routes and withdrawals without a provider fee at its own ATMs. Deposit-processing fees, allowances and limits are outside these inputs. |

Other Chase Business Complete Banking Feature Scores
| Feature Comparison | Score | What the Score Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Expedited ACH Fee | 8.3/10 | $10 on a $1,000 same-day ACH payment through optional ACH Payment Services |
ACH scores reflect a documented conditional service. Enrollment, account eligibility, available limits and payment review apply; the scores do not promise access for every customer. Relationship waivers and third-party charges are not used in these standard-fee comparisons.
Other Bank of America Business Advantage Fundamentals Banking Feature Scores
| Feature Comparison | Score | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Expedited ACH Fee | 8.9/10 | The $5 provider fee for one $1,000 Next Business Day ACH payment. This is next-business-day service; the score does not establish same-day ACH availability. |
Advantages and Limitations
Chase Business Complete Banking
Chase provides a $2,000 balance-based waiver route, separate user permissions and documented mobile, ATM and branch services. Its cash-processing schedule distinguishes Chase ATM cash deposits from specified non-ATM routes.
The balance test is daily rather than an average. Qualifying card and payment-processing waiver routes have their own requirements. Optional ACH services, wires, cash handling and counted transactions can add charges.
Bank of America Fundamentals
Bank of America allows eligible linked business deposit balances to contribute to its combined average monthly balance waiver. It also offers a qualifying debit-purchase route and role-specific account access.
Linking and program enrollment are not automatic. ATM and financial-center cash deposits share the stated allowance. Two published-document conflicts—opening deposit and aggregation of employee-card spending—need confirmation before relying on those conditions.
Fees and Minimum Balances
Monthly Fee Waivers
The balance calculation matters as much as the dollar threshold.
Chase Waiver Routes
Chase waives its $15 monthly service fee when one applicable route is met:
- Maintain at least $2,000 minimum daily ending balance each business day of the statement period, excluding the last day under the cited schedule's test.
- Receive at least $2,000 in eligible deposits through QuickAccept, InstaMed or other eligible Chase Payment Solutions products, at least one day before the statement period ends. Deposits are net of chargebacks, refunds and adjustments and must relate to the same business.
- Make at least $2,000 in qualifying purchases on eligible Chase Ink and/or Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business cards during the most recent monthly card billing cycle. The qualifying cards must belong to the same business entity and earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points.
- Link a qualifying Chase Private Client Checking, JPMorgan Classic Checking or Private Client Checking Plus account, with the required direct business-owner and signer relationship.
- Meet Chase Military Banking requirements.
Match the correct cycle and card: the card billing cycle can differ from the checking statement period, and only qualifying cards satisfy this route.
Bank of America Waiver Routes
Bank of America provides three routes to avoid its $16 monthly fee:
- Maintain at least $5,000 combined average monthly balance in eligible linked business deposit accounts.
- Make at least $500 in qualifying new net purchases with the linked business debit card.
- Be enrolled in Preferred Rewards for Business under its conditions. Qualifying balance tiers start at $20,000; a balance alone does not establish enrollment. The checking-fee benefit applies to the first four checking accounts per enrolled business.
Eligible account linking must be requested, and linked accounts must share the required taxpayer identification number. Cash-like transactions, ATM transactions, refunds, cash advances, account funding and pending purchases do not satisfy the debit-purchase route.
Bank of America's fee documents say linked employee debit-card purchases count, while a checking-page footnote says purchases across debit cards cannot be aggregated. Confirm how the bank will apply the rule before depending on combined spending.
Other Charges
| Activity | Chase | Bank of America |
|---|---|---|
| Counted Items Above the Allowance | $0.50 each after 20 | $0.45 each after 20 |
| Online Outgoing Domestic Wire | $25 | $30 before waiver |
| Outgoing Domestic Wire with a Banker | $35 | Not priced in this comparison |
| U.S. Out-of-Network ATM Withdrawal | $3 plus operator charges | $2.50 plus operator charges |
The two transaction allowances count different activity. The detailed exclusions below matter more than treating either account as offering simply “20 free transactions.”
Interest, Yield and Cash Management
Neither named checking account earns interest. A monthly-fee waiver is a reduction in account charges, not a yield on the balance held to qualify.
Both banks offer separate business savings and other deposit products. Bank of America also lists business CDs. Those products have their own rates, minimums and fees; their terms do not make Fundamentals interest-bearing.
Chase's schedule provides a monthly-service-fee waiver on one linked Chase Business Total Savings account under its conditions. Bank of America's eligible linked balances can contribute to the Fundamentals waiver calculation. Compare the requirements of each product separately rather than assuming every additional balance earns interest or counts toward a waiver.
Cash Deposits, Checks and ATM Access
Cash Deposits
| Cash-Deposit Route | Chase | Bank of America |
|---|---|---|
| Bank's Own ATM | No cash-processing charge in the cited business schedule | Part of the combined $5,000 cash allowance |
| Specified Non-ATM or Financial-Center Deposits | First $5,000 without a processing charge; then 0.30% of the excess | Shares the $5,000 allowance; then $0.30 per $100 |
| Rounding | Percentage calculation on excess | Nearest-$100 rounding: below $50 rounds down; $50 or more rounds up |
Chase's non-ATM schedule names Immediate Verification, Post Verification and Night Deposit. Bank of America's processing charge may appear on the next statement or the following one.
Deposit route matters: the allowance prices cash processing, while location, machine capacity and account limits determine what you can deposit.
Check Deposits and Counted Transactions
Both banks document mobile, ATM and in-person check deposits. Availability, review and holds depend on account terms; submitting a check does not make its funds immediately spendable.
Chase's excess-transaction charge applies after the first 20 deposits and withdrawals made with a banker and paper checks written. Electronic deposits, deposited items, ACH and ATM transactions, debit purchases and internal transfers do not attract that particular excess-item charge.
Bank of America's allowance covers 20 checks paid, other debits and deposited items. Debit-card transactions, electronic debits and checks deposited through Mobile Check Deposit, a Bank of America ATM or Remote Deposit Online are excluded; deposit tickets carry no fee. Treatment of incoming electronic credits as deposited items remains unconfirmed.
ATM Access and Paper Checks
Both banks document withdrawals at their own ATMs without a provider withdrawal fee. Other ATMs can add the provider charges shown above and an operator fee. Verify the location and function you need rather than assuming every machine supports the same deposits.
Both accounts support customer-written checks. Ordering costs vary; a free first checkbook is not established for either named account.
ACH, Wires and Other Payments
ACH Routes
| Payment Service | Chase | Bank of America |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Outgoing ACH | Optional ACH Payment Services: $2.50 each for the first 10 monthly payments, then $0.15 each | Small-business online/mobile three-business-day outbound ACH: $1 each |
| Faster Outgoing ACH | Optional same-day service: 1% of amount, capped at $25 | Next-business-day outbound ACH: $5 each |
| Online Outgoing Domestic Wire | $25 | $30 before applicable waiver |
Compare speed as well as price: Chase's same-day and Bank of America's next-business-day routes are different services. Enrollment, available limits, authorization and recipient processing affect delivery.
Wires and Bill Pay
Chase lists $15 for incoming domestic wires, or $0 when originally sent through specified Chase channels. Bank of America lists $15 before applicable waivers; Preferred Rewards for Business members receive the documented incoming-wire waiver.
The Bank of America Platinum Honors allowance covers the first four qualifying online outgoing domestic and USD international wires combined per statement cycle. CashPro wires are excluded.
Both document Bill Pay and Zelle. Bill Pay can deliver electronically or by mailed check; the bank's delivery selection is different from enrolling in a specific ACH payment service. Zelle availability, limits and permitted use remain conditional.
International Payments and FX
| Online International Payment | Chase | Bank of America |
|---|---|---|
| Wire Sent in USD | $40 | $45 before applicable waiver |
| Wire Sent in Foreign Currency | $5, or $0 at a USD-equivalent amount of at least $5,000 | No wire fee; exchange-rate markup applies |
Chase's foreign-currency exchange rate includes a spread. Compare the exchange-rate quote and transfer fee together. Intermediary and recipient-bank charges can affect the amount received.
Compare the quote for the actual currency, destination and amount. Apply waivers only to eligible transactions; a zero wire-fee line can still involve exchange-rate and third-party costs.
Account Structure and Business Tools
The comparison concerns each bank's named checking account, not an included system of budgeting buckets or multiple sub-accounts. An included Reserves-style allocation feature is not confirmed for either plan.
Both offer separate business deposit products and tools to manage account access and activity. Bank of America's linking rules can combine eligible balances for a fee-waiver test, but linking is not the same as creating a budgeting bucket or merging accounts.
If a workflow needs multiple accounts, compare their individual fees, permissions and reconciliation requirements. Separate account labels or numbers do not automatically add deposit-insurance coverage.
Invoicing, Bookkeeping and Integrations
Invoicing and Payment Acceptance
Chase documents creating and sending invoices through online or mobile services, but invoicing is not available to all merchants. QuickAccept card acceptance is subject to eligibility, review and processing fees. Same-day deposits at no additional deposit fee do not make card processing free.
Bank of America separately offers Merchant Services and payment solutions. An included invoicing tool is not confirmed for new Fundamentals customers; ask which invoicing services are available and whether they cost extra.
Accounting Connections
Bank of America documents automatic QuickBooks Online transaction syncing and QuickBooks Desktop downloads. QuickBooks is purchased separately.
Chase describes accounting-related connections; confirm automatic syncing for your chosen accounting package and Business Complete account. Confirm your software edition and required data flow before assuming equivalent QuickBooks or Xero support.
A bank connection is not a bookkeeping service. Statements, exports and feeds support records, while reconciliation and tax filing remain separate tasks.
Mobile and Digital Banking
Both banks provide online and mobile access, alerts, statements and mobile check deposits under their service terms. Mobile-deposit limits are displayed within the service rather than established here as one universal amount.
Scanner-Based Check Deposits
Scanner services are separate from ordinary mobile deposit. Chase lists QuickDeposit scanner subscriptions at $25 or $50 per month with a two-year contract. Bank of America lists Remote Deposit Online at $15 per month after its introductory trial, with a two-year commitment and a $250 early-termination fee under the stated conditions. Approval and availability still apply.
Digital features here are documented capabilities, not hands-on app or deposit-performance findings.
Team Access, Security and Controls
User Permissions and Cards
Chase documents separate profiles, per-account permissions, daily limits, dual approval and activity reports through Access & Security Manager. It also documents employee debit cards and deposit-only cards; the cited schedule lists a $0 annual fee for the Associate Debit Card.
Bank of America Account Management provides separate Online IDs and per-account transactional, view-only or no access, with no additional service fee. Employee debit cards and deposit cards have documented owner-set controls.
Choose permissions according to the task rather than assuming an additional user needs full transaction access.
Alerts and Account Controls
Both document alerts and customer-controlled locking of the ordinary business debit card. Authentication requirements vary with activity and device; this comparison does not claim a second factor at every sign-in.
Chase documents Check Monitoring for Business Complete. Do not assume that ACH Debit Block or Check Protection Services/positive pay are included for this account simply because a general fee table lists a $0 charge. Account eligibility and product restrictions remain relevant.
Review your account's reporting and dispute procedures.
Customer Support
Chase lists 1-800-242-7338 for business customer service and 1-877-242-7372 for online/mobile technical support, plus the signed-in Secure Message Center and branch appointments. Confirm Chase's staffed checking-support hours and available chat options directly. A message facility available around the clock does not establish 24/7 staffing.
Bank of America lists 888.287.4637 for existing small-business account service, with published hours Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–11 p.m. Eastern, and Saturday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern. New accounts and online banking use separate routes. Online-banking support hours differ between published sources, so confirm the current channel-specific schedule.
Financial-center services and appointments depend on location.
Credit, Lending and Additional Services
Both offer business credit cards and lending as separate products. Chase's documented families include lines of credit, term loans, SBA loans and commercial real estate financing. Bank of America's include unsecured and cash-secured lines, unsecured loans, auto loans and SBA loans.
Checking approval does not approve a credit application.
Chase separately offers ACH Collections and Chase Payroll powered by Gusto. Bank of America separately offers merchant and payroll services. These should not be treated as included bookkeeping or payroll benefits.
Other checking plans also have separate terms: Chase lists Performance Business Checking at $40 and Platinum Business Checking at $95 per month before waivers; Bank of America lists Relationship Banking at $29.95 per month before waivers. Do not assign their allowances to the entry-level accounts compared here.
Deposit Protection and Account Terms
JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., and Bank of America, N.A., are the named banks and Members FDIC. These accounts are not described as fintech offerings supplied through a separate partner bank.
The standard FDIC framework is $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category. Other deposits in the same category at the same bank count toward the limit. Deposit insurance concerns insured-bank failure, not a guarantee against every account loss or interruption.
Overdraft Fees and Conditions
| Policy Detail | Chase | Bank of America |
|---|---|---|
| Fee for a Qualifying Paid Overdraft | $34 | $10 under the Standard setting |
| Maximum Number of These Fees | Six per business day | Two per day |
| Maximum Named Item Fees at That Cap | $204 | $20 |
| Selected Exceptions and Controls | Overdraft Assist and other exceptions apply | Optional Decline All setting and specified small-dollar exceptions |
Overdraft exceptions affect the actual fee. Chase's documented Overdraft Assist avoids the fee when the account is overdrawn by $50 or less at business-day end, or is brought to that level by 11 p.m. Eastern/8 p.m. Pacific on the next business day. Funds must be available and other conditions apply.
Bank of America's cited exceptions include an overdraft of $1 or less and items of $1 or less. Neither bank promises to pay every overdraft. The table's maximum covers only the named item fees, not all possible charges.
Bank of America's optional Balance Connect can transfer available funds from eligible linked backup accounts without its transfer fee. Credit-based advances can still incur interest or other charges; a transfer-fee waiver does not make borrowing free.
Eligibility and Account Opening
Chase lists sole proprietorships, LLCs, corporations and partnerships among supported structures. Online opening is limited to specified ownership and authorization arrangements; other businesses apply at a branch. Chase states no minimum opening deposit.
Bank of America requires a U.S.-formed business with primary U.S. operations under the cited guidance. Requirements vary by structure and state. Its checking-page FAQ says no minimum opening deposit, while the cited Clarity Statement says $100. Confirm the applicable requirement; this comparison does not select one as definitive.
Prepare identity, tax-ID, formation and ownership/control information using the bank's structure-specific instructions. Ownership thresholds and required documents can differ. Both review applications, and eligibility does not guarantee approval.
Illustrative Costs and Interest
Neither checking account earns interest, so these illustrations compare specified charges rather than project earnings.
One-Cycle Cost Examples
Assume ongoing monthly fees apply, neither account qualifies for a monthly waiver, no special-status or rewards wire waiver applies, all activity is permitted and no checks are returned or stopped.
| Defined Activity | Chase Calculation | Bank of America Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| No Separately Charged Activity | $15 monthly fee | $16 monthly fee |
| $8,000 Cash at the Bank's ATM | $15 + $0 cash processing = $15 | $16 + 30 × $0.30 = $25 |
| $8,000 Cash in Four Banker/Financial-Center Deposits; No Other Counted Activity | $15 + $3,000 × 0.30% = $24 | $16 + 30 × $0.30 = $25 |
| 40 Paper Checks Written and Paid; No Other Counted Activity | $15 + 20 × $0.50 = $25 | $16 + 20 × $0.45 = $25 |
Where the allowance applies, $8,000 − $5,000 leaves $3,000. That equals 30 increments of $100, so Bank of America's rounding does not change these examples. The four banker/financial-center deposits remain within the counted-transaction allowance.
Subtract $15 or $16 from the respective illustration if a monthly waiver is met. The examples exclude check purchases, overdrafts, wires, ACH services, third-party charges and activity not stated. They attribute costs to activity, not necessarily the statement on which the charge posts, and do not promise that an ATM accepts the illustrated volume in one visit.
Which Account Fits Your Business?
| Your Need | What to Examine | Important Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Fee Waiver with a Smaller Stated Balance | Chase's $2,000 daily ending balance route | Daily test differs from an average balance |
| Use of Existing Business Deposit Balances | Bank of America's $5,000 combined average route | Eligible accounts must be linked under the stated rules |
| Waiver Based on Card Spending | Chase's qualifying credit purchases versus Bank of America's qualifying debit purchases | Required amounts and cycles differ; confirm employee-card aggregation |
| Regular ATM Cash Deposits | Chase's ATM cash-processing treatment | Machine limits and account conditions still apply |
| Banker/Financial-Center Cash Deposits | Both banks' $5,000 allowances | Excess-fee calculation and rounding differ |
| Frequent Paper Checks | Counted-item definitions and excess charges | Check-order costs are separate |
| Online Wires | Route, currency and qualifying waivers | Wire fee alone is not total FX cost |
| Delegated Banking Access | Documented permissions and card controls | Configure access for each person's actual task |
FinanceProspector’s Take
Chase deserves a closer look when your business can maintain its lower daily-balance waiver threshold or regularly deposits cash at Chase ATMs. That does not make every cash deposit free: the cited allowance and excess charge apply to specified non-ATM deposit routes.
Bank of America deserves a closer look when eligible linked business balances make its combined-average waiver easier to maintain. Price your cash deposits and counted transactions separately, and confirm how employee-card spending is treated before relying on that waiver route. Choose around the waiver you can maintain and the charges generated by your actual activity.
Before You Apply
- Map your balance pattern. Compare a daily minimum with an eligible linked-account average; do not judge by the threshold alone.
- Choose your deposit routes. Distinguish ATM cash, banker deposits, mobile checks and scanner services.
- Price the payments you use. Include ACH enrollment, wires, currency conversion and separately priced services.
- Confirm unresolved conditions. Ask Bank of America about opening deposit and employee-card spending aggregation before relying on them, then confirm account approval and enabled limits before switching activity.
FAQs
How Do the Balance-Based Fee Waivers Differ?
Chase uses a $2,000 minimum daily ending balance route under its statement-period rules. Bank of America uses a $5,000 combined average monthly balance in eligible linked business deposit accounts. Both offer other conditional routes.
Does Either Checking Account Earn Interest?
No. Savings, CDs and other separately offered products have their own terms and should not be treated as interest paid on either named checking account.
Are Cash Deposits Priced the Same Way?
No. Chase's schedule distinguishes ATM cash deposits from specified non-ATM routes. Bank of America's $5,000 allowance covers cash deposited at ATMs or financial centers, with its own excess and rounding rules.
Does Avoiding the Monthly Fee Make Every Transaction Free?
No. Wires, ACH services, cash processing above allowances, excess counted items and other services can have separate charges.
Is Bank of America's Faster ACH the Same as Chase's Same-Day Service?
No. The compared Bank of America route is next-business-day ACH. Chase's optional same-day service has its own eligibility and percentage charge.
Can Employees Receive Restricted Account Access?
Both banks document separate users and configurable permissions. Confirm the actual viewing, payment, approval and card controls before adding someone.
What Opening Deposit Does Bank of America Require?
The cited checking FAQ and Clarity Statement disagree. Confirm the requirement applicable to the account and opening route rather than relying on a single unqualified amount.
